Dr. Richard Shamo was born and raised in Boulder City, NV. In 2008, he earned his D.D.S. at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Dentistry. He went on to the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, where he graduated in 2011 with his M.D.. Dr. Shamo earned his two-year General Surgery Certificate in 2013 and his OMS Certificate in 2014. During his education, Dr. Shamo was named the AAOMS National Meeting Simwars Competition winner, earned the UCLA School of Dentistry Oral Medicine & Orofacial Pain Award, the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology Certificate of Merit Award, California Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons Certificate of Merit Award, and the Garth Lee Undergraduate Teaching Award, to name a few of his awards and achievements. After graduation, he served as the Director of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs, Wyoming, before joining the Aspire Surgical team in 2017.
Dr. Shamo holds memberships with the American Dental Association, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Utah Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, Wyoming Dental Association and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. He currently holds hospital privileges at Intermountain Medical Center, St. Mark’s Hospital, Riverton Hospital, Lone Peak Hospital, and Primary Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Shamo is committed to serving his community in meaningful ways and has volunteered with several organizations both locally and abroad, including Smiles for Latin America, Thousand Smiles Foundation, UCLA Free Dental Clinic, and the USC Mobile Clinic. He also provides free Oral & Maxillofacial surgical care to patients who are indigent, in underserved communities, or who otherwise do not have access to care. Additionally, he has served as a youth leader, Cub Scout leader, ASDA Fundraising Committee Chairman, Mentor at the UCLA ASDA Pre-Dental Association, “Big Sib” underclassman counselor in the UCLA School of Dentistry, and an ASDA Alternate Delegate.
In his spare time, Dr. Shamo enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, timber sledding, snowboarding, mountain biking, boating, wakeboarding, surfing, skiing, and riding his dirt bike in the dark with just the bike’s bright headlights beaming. Another fun fact about Dr. Shamo is that he is the ultimate handyman. He can fix almost anything!
Dr. Shamo is dedicated to ensuring all patients feel heard, understood, and cared for. He speaks fluent Spanish, allowing patients to converse comfortably in either English or Spanish.
