Who Can Get Otoplasty Surgery

Both children and adults can receive otoplasty. However, children are excellent candidates for otoplasty, as they are still growing and their cartilage is more moldable than that of adults, allowing us to more easily reshape their ears. This treatment is also recommended for children with large, malformed, or protruding ears because the psychological effects of these problems can begin developing in childhood as a result of the teasing of their peers about their appearance.

Otoplasty Procedure

Otoplasty is performed in our state-of-the-art facility under local anesthesia. Our doctor will begin by making an incision in the fold where the ear is attached to the head. The cartilage will then be reshaped or removed until the new look of the ear is established. We will then use permanent sutures to hold the cartilage in its corrected position. This is where the procedure gets the name “ear pinning.”

You or your child may experience some discomfort following surgery. Our doctor will apply soft bandages to protect the ears, which need to be worn for several days. Patients will also not be able to sleep on their side for about a week. We will provide any additional post-operative instructions necessary to protect your ears and ensure a successful surgery.

We are committed to helping you feel comfortable and confident in the way you look. Please contact our office, located around Salt Lake City, for more information about the benefits of otoplasty!
