Once the local anesthesia and IV sedation are administered, your oral surgeon will make a small incision in the gum tissue. Depending on the size of the tooth, your surgeon may remove it whole or in smaller sections. After each tooth is extracted, the surgical area will be sutured to promote faster healing. These sutures are typically dissolvable, so there is no need for them to be removed later. You will rest in our office until the anesthesia wears off, and then your designated driver will take you home for recovery. It is important for someone to monitor you for 24 hours after the wisdom teeth removal procedure.

Recovery

Recovery time varies for each individual, but many patients are able to resume their normal activities within a few days. It is crucial to keep the surgical sites clean for a couple of weeks until the empty tooth sockets fully heal. Smoking should be avoided after the surgery, as the suction can dislodge the blood clot that forms within the sockets, leading to a painful condition called dry socket.

How To Eat After Surgery

A soft food diet will be required for the initial days of recovery, and gradually harder foods can be incorporated back into your diet as you become more comfortable. Your surgeon will provide you with detailed post-operative instructions to guide you throughout the recovery process.
