John Varner DDS, MD

Dr. John Varner was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah graduating from Olympus high school where he was first team all-state for basketball his senior year. Dr. Varner furthered his education at Brigham Young University where he received a bachelors degree in Exercise Science graduating Magna-Cum Laude. He was then accepted into the Inaugural Class of 20 students at the University of Utah School of Dentistry where he graduated number one in his class. At graduation, he was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. He also received awards in oral and maxillofacial pathology, anesthesiology, and received a Capstone award.

Following dental school, Dr. Varner was accepted into a six-year residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. After completion of medical school, he completed a one-year internship in General Surgery with comprehensive rotations in Plastic Surgery, Craniofacial Surgery, Head and Neck Surgery, Trauma, Neurosurgery, Pediatric Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and others. He also received extensive training in facial cosmetic and oculoplastic surgery. Dr. Varner completed his residency by serving as Chief Resident during his final year.

Dr. Varner’s interests encompass all aspects of facial surgery including orthognathic or corrective jaw surgery, facial cosmetics and periorbital rejuvenation, TMJ surgery, pathology, facial trauma, bone grafting, wisdom tooth removal, in-office anesthesia and dental implant placement. Dr. Varner has a passion for the management of facial aging, complex skeletal malocclusion, and facial trauma.

Dr. Varner is committed to providing the highest quality and professional care to his patients. He is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He holds certifications in advanced cardiac life support (ALCS), pediatric advanced life support (PALS) and advanced trauma life support (ATLS). Dr. Varner is currently board eligible for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Varner, his wife and two daughters will be moving back to Holladay, Utah in July. They enjoy spending time with family, being in the outdoors, fishing, backpacking, horse riding, hiking, snowmobiling, and spending time in Wyoming.
